If you're deeply interested in Wildland Fire, the history of the US Forest Service, and understanding why we find ourselves in such a mess in terms of catastrophic fire, read this book. As a professional firefighter, it's hard to find books that fairly represent what Wildland firefighter do and think as well as the science and history underpinning it all. This book does just that. This is not pulp fiction but a scholarly look. If more Congressional aides read this book, we'd all be better off.
Not an easy read and yes it is like a text book however.if you are in the field "Between Two Fires" is a must.Along with "To the Last Smoke "series
A riveting history of wildfire fighting in the US. I love this author's works, but this is my favorite by far. If you have an interest in fire ecology, policy or history I strongly recommend getting this book.
Excellent
Pyne's histories of fire are comprehensive and demonstrate his abilities as a historian. This combined with his many seasons fighting fire on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon provide a unique perspective on the west's wildfire.
A must read for anyone in the wildland fire service and helpful for our volunteer and structural fire service partners.
Very thorough and well written. Any fire or natural resource professional should read this book, as it's loaded with info.
