The author, Professor Richard van Noort, lectures dental students at the University of Sheffield. As one of his students, I have been able to witness the Professor's impeccable knowledge of past, present and future dental materials. The great show of enthusiasm and passion he displays as a dental materials university lecturer mirrors ever page in his textbook. I used the 3rd edition quite extensively and it was one of my favourite textbooks before the 4th edition came out! Besides the lack of colour, I could not think of many ways that would improve the 3rd edition but how wrong was I? The recent introduction of the 4th edition includes the addition of several mouth-watering features but the pick of the bunch has to be the introduction of an "all new on-line self-assessment module," Credit must be given to Dr Michele Barbour for her role in this new initiative. I must also commend the publishers for ensuring that the whole textbook is now "published in full colour throughout." I personally thrive on colour and was delighted to find out that there had been a significant change in the colour scheme. All in all, this book is nothing short of amazing. It really is a must-buy for all 2nd and 3rd year dental students!" Excellent text with clear descriptions and diagrams. Latest edition is timely and up to date. Would love a kindle version!
This book is an interesting concept, but unfortunately is riddle with mistakes. Those can be useful spotted by a materials scientist or even a materials science student, however they more difficult to be spotted by a dentistry student.
