Compared to the other prep companies, these Kaplan books are very detailed. I used this as my main resource and then used the complete Princeton review book for follow up on each section. Lots of good review in the books and nothing you won't see. Although I did find some topics in the AAMC practice exams that were not covered in the psychology section so make sure you check the AAMC guidelines on their website for which topics they require you to know. I thought the online practice exams were pretty detailed oriented compared to the concept oriented questions found in the AAMC practice questions and exams. I scored 508s and 509s on the Kaplan exams but much higher on the AAMC practice exam, but both are still good resources I would recommend.I really used the previous version to study for 4.5 months while working full time and in an internship part time. I read all of the books, except the CARS, multiple times and answered the questions and concept checks after each section. I then took the practice exams online along with the Princeton exams during my last 6 weeks of studying. I also used the AAMC question banks (also an invaluable resource) for all of the subjects and their practice exams during those last 6 weeks. I scored in the 99th percentile and couldn't have compiled all of the necessary topics so neatly on my own. I didn't take a prep course and this set was definitely worth the money. I also used the flashcard app that comes with the physical flash cards and those were also useful to master concepts and definitions.
When I was first beginning to study for the MCAT, I was a little concerned because the majority of my friends were taking prep classes in order to prepare for the test. Unfortunately, I did not have the money to sign up for a $2000 prep course, so I browsed Amazon looking for the best prep book available. This set received really good reviews and came with an online center with free practice exams, so I went ahead and purchased these while they were on sale for under $200. After studying for over 4 months with these, I took the MCAT, received my score, and was very satisfied with the purchase.Each book is very detailed and thorough when discussing each subject. The best books, in my opinion, were the Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Behavioral Sciences Review. Each one did a fantastic job simplifying complex topics I had previously covered in my prerequisite courses, and I wished that I even had some of the review material Kaplan provided in the set on hand while I was studying for the exams in those courses. The package even came with a 20 pg quicksheet booklet, which was extremely helpful for studying while doing other things. Each chapter contained practice discrete questions at the end of the text, which were very helpful in drilling content into my head.The online center contained several modules for a select number of chapters, however since these were sporadic and seemingly random, I never used them. I found a spreadsheet online that linked free Khan Academy practice MCAT passages to each chapter, which was extremely helpful when practicing for the question styles of the test. However, the online center provides 3 practice exams which were moderately difficult, but extremely helpful in boosting MCAT scores if reviewed properly. These were probably my favorite part of this package.After finishing the Kaplan material in this package, I spent the last few weeks of studying the AAMC online material from the company which writes the exam. Kaplan did a great job preparing me for these resources, however, the AAMC resources were more representative of the actual material seen on the real exam. I definitely would recommend incorporating the AAMC online practice resources into anyone's study plan.That being said, these books were fantastic in preparing me for the exam at an affordable price. I highly recommend them to anyone wishing to study for this monster of an exam, and have no doubt that anyone who has taken the prerequisite courses for medical school admission can succeed on the MCAT using these review books!
The product itself is great, good material. But it does not come with practice tests. I am a fan and a regular of amazon, and this is my first time where I had bad experience with FALSE ADVERTISEMENT in amazon. Highly disappointed. I would have purchased it else where if it didnt come with practice tests, and SO SHOULD YOU. Do not be fooled by these other comments on 4 and 5 stars.
Super fast shipping!! Item is exactly as described!However, this edition is almost identical to even the 2015 edition (with a few minor changes i.e..learning objectives at the beginning of every chapter). So if you can get another edition at cheaper price, do so.
Let me preface this by saying that the last science class that I had was 6 years ago. So when I opened the General Chemistry book, I was expecting the worst. In actuality, the book gives concise answers and provides useful explanations. For example, I could never understand periodic trends throughout high school, but after reading the chapter in 2 hours, I now understand all the periodic trends! This is a must-have book for all premeds.
These come with idiot proof MCAT info. They literally tell you exactly what you need to know for the MCAT and are worth every penny!
These books were in very good condition, easy to read and I’m looking forward to studying for the mcat exam with them. However, I did not find a way to access any online practice tests through the purchase of these books, as advertised.
Very extensive review of all 7 MCAT subjects. Not good for someone without much time before the MCAT exam though; you'll want a lot of time to completely review the material.
