+ For those who are friends of Bill - If you are a friend of Bill you probably have heard of Joe and Charlie. If you don't know Bill, this probably won't be a very good read for you.+ Transcript, Next Best Thing to Being There - As the description says - this is a transcript of a Joe and Charlie session. If you've been to a J&C session you will likely relive the same feeling (good or bad) that you had at the session.+ Ignore the critics of format - I made a mistake when considering this selection based on critics who said the print was too small. I wear thick glasses and the size of text is no problem. Smallest text is about 10pt - book itself is easily transportable and about 3/8-inch thick.+ Summary - great for those who know Joe and Charlie, good for those who know Bill but did not meet J&C, forget it if you do not know any one of these three men.
I was so thrilled to find this transcript of the Joe&Charlie series. I have repeatedly told myself I need to transcribe it, but time, yet again, made this difficult. The layout is easy on the eyes. It goes through tape by tape, with room in the margins for annotations. I've listened to the series multiple times over the years. When reading, I can "hear" their voices. It's also nice to put faces to the names. It's a wonderful compendium to a speaker tape series that has seen many through not only the first year of sobriety, but as a lifetime adjunct to working the program.
I was fortunate enough to attend a couple of Joe & Charlie Big Book seminars in early recovery. I really loved and learned a lot at them, and actually had a spiritual experience because of the uplifting and informative nature of those events. I was excited when I stumbled across this book and immediately ordered it. Though like others have noted it can be hard to read at time because it is a direct transcript of the talks, it was well worth the effort. I would just read a few pages a day, and absorb the meaning. I couldn't imagine trying to tackle this all at once!I learned a few things that I had missed in listening. To see it written out puts a different slant on it. The transcriber also did a nice job of putting certain ideas in boxes or written to the side or centered to make them stand out for clarity. There are a few typos or formatting errors, but this was a labor of love and I don't except perfection, and it's easy to figure out what was meant anyway. I'm just happy that this book exists and I plan on re-reading it every now and then. ~Shay
This is not the transcript that includes Joe McQ. It is from "Journey to Recovery" with Joe McC. I have the actual audio this is taken from. It's well done, and useful, but it's not what, and who, you're lead to believe it is.
I don't like the font size, the layout. But the content is so excellent it is worth slogging through. it will be a slow study but I am confident that it will do me a lot of good and maybe be life-changing.
This is the best book I have ever found that helped me to study the Big Book. Joe and Charlie do a fantastic job of helping the reader to understand their problem, and then the solution as outlined in the Big Book. Wonderful!
I've read the Big Book 1000 times. But this word for word production of the Original Joe and Charlie Big Book Study has taken me deep into the meanings and analysis of this amazing book. Highly recommended ☀ï¸â˜€ï¸â˜€ï¸â˜€ï¸â˜€ï¸
We were going to use this for a study group but the print was so small it was to much of a hindrance to continue.
