I was looking for something different in the way of a devotional guide and this book was recommended. It is not a novel nor just a devotional - it is a guide to prayer for 365 days a a year. I especially like that it includes prayer for the day, the season, the occasion, and the congregation. While there are prayers, it also includes a schedule for Bible passages as well for each day.
I've been using this for a couple weeks, and enjoy the structure and guidance provided. It helps me with focus and discipline in my prayer life.
Very helpful daily devotional grounded in the United Methodist traction.
Intended as a book for daily use, it also offers just what is needed on particular occasions. A case in point is a prayer on page 136 and 137 to read in "In Times of Great Distress Due to Natural Disaster or Humanly Devised Evil," that is especially comforting in times like ours - when the world seems beset by hurricanes, torrential rains, mudslides, earthquakes, and terrorism. This prayer brings reassurance that God understands our pain, fear and confusion, and that He is always with us to comfort and protect us.
This seems to be a solid resource for daily prayer (and prayer for many occasions), but the Kindle edition makes it impractical to use. There is not table of contents so it is very difficult to go from one section of prayers to another. If you want to purchase this book, my suggestion is to get the old fashion 'tree killer' edition and start flipping pages. Blessings in your journey.
I have had the privilege of being a student in two classes with Dr. Stookey. His language is superb, and his insights are unique and expanding. While I have used this as a daily devotional for two years, I find something new each time I meditate on the suggested readings. I give it to friends as a gift often.

I discovered this 'daily' devotional book through a Pastor friend. when we meet we always start with this. Now I have my own and I love it. I recommend this to any church leader. I recommend this to anyone that takes a few minutes a day to be with Our Creator. It is very detailed. definately makes you 'THINK'!
