I love everything Apple and when something new comes out, you bet I'm going to have it.Siri has been upgraded many times and I learned how to use it and by trial and error and very simplistic books on earlier versions.As I said with the evolution of Siri… It does so many more things in the original beta Siri ever did. So, me being a person who likes to take full advantage of the products I use, purchased this book and I started by traditionally skipping around. But I gained so much information about Siri and hidden things that did that I had no idea it would do... let me Be very specific about my definition of what this book teaches. It tells you how to use it in a basic way and from beginners point of view and does provide a few silly ways to use it as all Siri books include... but I'm a business executive who doesn't have time for fluff... so, here with a very good Bluetooth headset… (Jabra motion), the book taught me extremely useful things like how to Siri read incoming email to me without touching the phone, how to respond to email and iMessages in like manner….If you're like myself, you don't have time for fluff and being an executive on the go, you'll find this book extremely beneficial as it includes many the use of the many improvements and enhancements of the latest Siri product.
This is a feature of the I-phone that I have never had much luck with. Turns out it can be a useful tool when you know what you are doing.
really helped me finally be able to get some real, productive use out of Siri. adding items to a grocery list, for example, is as easy as saying "hey, Siri"—living in the future!

I agreed to write this review and was provided with the book which enabled me to experiment with my iPhone while reading.Initially, I quite intimidated by Siri and even changed from the female to the male voice. After reading this guide I was amazed by the capabilities and functions that were available to me and was determined to at least be on speaking terms with Siri. My first encounter, asking Siri to turn off my 3:00 AM alarm, resulted in "I turned off your 3:00 AM alarm. Now we can both get some sleep!"This little pocket-size book is very detailed and well designed to provide the reader with instructions, photos of iPhone screens with examples and practice scripts. It is written with humor, provides notes and asides, limitations and alternate ways of using Siri. The quick reference at the end of the book is divided into topics listing the most important things to say to Siri. This, alone, is worth scanning into my phone for an on-the-spot reference. The chapters are subdivided into sections all listed in the Table of Contents. Topics include how to set up and use Siri for shopping, navigation, making lists, movie reviews, messaging, finding locations and directions, restaurant reservations, asking for information regarding calendars, reminders, clocks, weather, music, sports and how to stay in touch with people.Learning to use dictation for writing email, blogging, document writing and almost anything that can be voiced is the most challenging but beneficial aspect of Siri. Using the microphone for dictating in iOS and OSX are both presented. The authors provide very clear instructions and practice opportunities for building your skills. It may be a bit daunting at first but as confidence grows so do your dictating capabilities. Detailed instruction is given on dictating formatting, punctuation, capitalization, symbols, numbers, dates, times, measures and technical terms. Trial and error can be very funny. Chapter 9, "Having Fun With Siri" and Chapter 10, "Siri Jokes" are worth the price of the book, with many photos of dialogues on the phone screen."Understanding the limitations and power of Siri's abilities is key to creating documents." state the authors and I agree.All you need to do is practice, practice, practice!
Siri is an intelligent voice controlled personal assistant which works on Apple iOS and OS X devices. The most current version runs on iPhones (4S or later), iPads (third generation or later), iPad minis, iPod touches (fifth generation and later) and Macs running the latest OS X release.Siri accepts spoken commands and provides answers and recommendations using a natural language or showing results from web searches. The range of commands understood by Siri is remarkable and its ability to provide relevant and at times humorous answers is surprisingly good.There is a problem, though, for the non initiated user. One must know how to ask questions using the right verbs and combination of words in order to get the most advantage out of Siri. So while it is easy to ask ‘What time it is?’ there is no documentation of the range of commands that can be given Siri and the best way to ask them. This is where “Talking to Siri†shines. The book is a must for all serious users of Siri. In a very clear language and with lots of relevant well illustrated examples this book guides the user through the discovery of the range of capabilities offered by this application.The book consists of ten chapters. Each chapter focuses on a distinct class of commands and interactions supported by Siri. Responses by Siri are indicated for each question asked. The first chapter of the book explains how to launch and have basic interactions with Siri. Following chapters explain how to control your device, how to ask information about topics such as weather, sports, stocks, how to stay in touch with your contacts, how to schedule your day and provides help with various shopping activities. Advanced interactions with some apps such as Phone calls, Calendar, Contacts, Mail and Messages are discussed in detail. A chapter is devoted to Siri dictation, covering enunciation, punctuation, abbreviations and dictation practice. On the light side, the last two chapters cover having fun with Siri and the authors ten top Siri jokes. My favorite was: if you ask Siri ‘Do you have a family?’ you may get an answer such as ‘I have you. That’s enough family for me’. Each chapter concludes with a summary that gives highlights of the chapter content. A reader may want to read that summary first.At the end of the book the authors have provided a quick reference guide to Siri organized around a large number of categories. Under ‘Asking about contacts’ are entries such us ‘What is Emily’s address?’ and ‘When is my wife’s birthday?’ Obviously to avoid funny answers Emily and one’s wife’s birthday must be included in the Contacts app. Under ‘Checking email’ we find entries such as ‘Check email’ and ‘Any new email from Jim today?’ These are just a few examples out of the more than 250 possible interactions listed in the reference guide.Siri is a sophisticated app that can be funny at times, but is always relevant. This book shows the extensive range of the app’s capabilities in a simple and very comprehensive fashion. Before reading the book I couldn’t even imagine the power that is available to us to make the most of our iPhones and other Apple devices. With this power we can extend our productivity in a fun and natural way.
